Abraham Maciñeiras Cuba 1972
Perversión de la Tauromaquia
Silver paint over engravings of Goya
Born in La Habana, Macineiras later moved to Spain where he spent many years before moving to the states. While studying for a masters in Florida, Macineiras had the opportunity of doing something he was curious to try, working over another artist's work. He was given engravings by the late 18th century and early 19th century master Goya, made in Spain with the original metal plate in which Goya sketched and carved these drawings, a series called Tauromaquia. And behold a new series, Perversiones de la Tauromaquia, was born. Macineiras brings geometric shapes and abstract inspiration using bold metallic silver paint into the classic and detailed work of a master of the arts, an artist who was considered one of the first in modernist painting and sketches. Bringing history back to life with an homage to the old master and a modern twist created by the one and only Abraham Maciñeiras
Alejandro Pedrido Cuba 1990
Señales, acrylic & charcoal on canvas
Series El Amor es un Juego, acrylic on canvas
Born in Remedios Cuba, Pedrido certainly is connected to his roots. Moving to Santiago de Chile at the end of his teen years after attending the Escuela Ascunce Domenech in Santa Clara for only one year, Pedrido began the start of his artistic career with a longing and nostalgia for the once familiar warm and tropical island, as well as new inspiration from a completely different and european styled country. Living and working out of Miami only 4 years now Pedridos work is a force that cannot be ignored. With his large scaled piece Señales he speaks of worlds beyond, using magnificent bouts of light surrounded by dark outlines, swirling white vines and an enigmatic image. His second work, Series El Amor es un Juego, is a captivating and novel piece with great composition, using hard and soft brush strokes to bring together this intimate, attractive and unique work of art.
Alfredo Rolon, Puerto Rico 1981
Series Primal Force: Sculptures The Flip & The Ring
Carved wood and Resin
Born in San Juan Puerto Rico, Rolon is now based in Miami, Florida. Beginning his artistic training at the Central de Artes Visuales, a specialized school of the arts in Puerto Rico, he later earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts, specializing in sculpture from the Escuela de Artes Plastica de San Juan. The exclusive and unique sculptures of Rolon, part of his Series Primal Force, utilize the pyramid as a symbol of stability, a firm structure that interacts with vulnerable, once living organic material. The pieces focus on the moment of contact, the moment when two entities join and generate a new possibility, a new and unknowing union. Through this interaction the artist investigates rupture, transformation and the emergence of form produced by opposing and completely different forces. Or are they?
Arbelio Fontes, Cuba 1973
No Title, acrylic on canvas
X , acrylic on canvas
Fontes was born in Camaguey, Cuba and graduated from La Escuela de Bellas Artes San Alejandro in 1996. He has exhibited in many exhibitions throughout Cuba and abroad. His symbolic surrealism is one enjoyed by all and his clean and minimalistic design emanates the strength of simplicity while using vibrant colors and textures. Inspired by his immigration from Cuba, Fontes focuses on depicting the hardships as well as changes we all must go through in order to evolve. His meticulous details and work of patience are all due to his magnificent talent. His larger work, X, painted in an array of colors behind a vibrant and eye-catching red in softer and darker tones, is inspired by the x that marks all humans. Born with either XY or XX, the x that marks the spot, that makes a choice for you, that represents you. His second piece, No Title, uses a simple light colored burlap laced with metallic thread to be the backdrop to his small figures in bright and neon colors, a new and attractive piece.
Derwin Leiva, Cuba 1978
Los Jugadores de Dominó, oil on canvas
90 Miles, oil on canvas
Leiva was born in Santa Clara, Cuba and developed a love for art early on in his life. A young memory of his is one of helping his grandfather make charcoal from the Aroma tree, giving him access to free materials for drawing. Moving to Miami in 1995 and then to Hawaii in 2004, where he now works and lives, the passion followed. His foundation began at the Honolulu Museum of Arts Linekoma School where he took classes in art before pursuing a bachelors degree in Fine Arts, concentrating in sculpture, from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Leiva's distinct style and figures let his work be known wherever it may stand. His large scale piece, Los Jugadores de Domino, uses his cubist and abstract forms to depict a familiar and comfortable scene, where all is good fun, where bodies move and play and where rhythm comes to life. Using extraordinary details, inspiration in Cuban music and working extremely well with lights and shadows, his work is alive with every stroke and every piece.
Ventura Gonzalez, Cuba 1952

Endless Wait, oil on cardboard

The fish is a symbol of fertility, abundance and spiritual transformation and is prominent in work by Ventura.
Yubani Sanchez, Cuba 1986
Espiritu, mixed media on cardboard paper
Born in Camaguey, Yubani found comfort and wonder in the world of art and painting at a very young age. Sanchez left his home country in 2017 due to the economic crisis and now lives and works in Miami, Florida. Although life has presented many challenges, the artist Yubani remains a positive force and expresses deep meaning and faith through his abstract expressionistic style. His works put together many components, creating a unified and cohesive work of wonder and spirit. With his work, Espiritu, the image comes off of the page bringing together lights and shadows, depth and profound appreciation for life and the force of creation.
“Today 2024, already in the U.S., thank God, I continue to pursue my dream as an artist:
working hard, painting, participating in exhibitions, feeding the dream. I am so grateful to
God and to this great nation full of opportunity that opened its doors to me and tells me
that I can do it” -Yubani Sanchez
